How To Be a STEM Champion for Girls

Women make up around half the United States workforce but only 35% of the science, technology, engineering, mathematics (STEM) workforce. When it comes to some of the fastest growing STEM industries, women’s representation is even lower: only 16% of engineers and 26% of computer scientists are women (see: NGCP’s State of Girls and Women in STEM). Girls and women continue to face significant barriers when pursuing STEM in K-12 settings and in the workforce.

We are taking action, and we can’t do it alone. By volunteering just one hour of your time to take this self-paced online training, you will learn to be an effective champion supporting girls in STEM!

The training is designed for professionals from a diverse range of industries (including both STEM and non-STEM industries and roles) to learn how to advocate for girls in STEM effectively. Through video presentation, reflection questions, and action planning this training will cover the following:

  • The current state of girls and women in STEM
  • Barriers to equity in STEM
  • Strategies for overcoming barriers to equity in STEM
  • The importance of allies, champions, and advocates
  • Actions you can take TODAY to be a champion for girls in STEM!

Ready to get started?

The whole process will take approximately 1 hour to complete. After you submit your completed reflection questions, you will receive an email acknowledging your completion.
