Florida Girls Collaborative Project Kick-Off

The Florida Girls Collaborative Project Kick-Off
Conference
was held on November 9, 2007 at the Museum of Science and
Industry (MOSI) in Tampa. The event
included speakers and a
panel of representatives from NASA, Raytheon, Cisco,
Florida Community
College of Jacksonville and Girl Scouts of West
Central Florida. Community
based organizations from the Tampa and St.
Petersburg areas showcased their programs and
connected with others.

NGCP Mini-Grants
The National Girls Collaborative Project offers many
tools to help strengthen the capacity of programs
serving girls in science, technology, engineering and
mathematics (STEM). NGCP awards mini-grants to
girl-serving STEM focused programs to support
collaboration, address gaps and overlaps in service,
and share promising practices. Mini-grant projects
must relate to either informal learning or evaluation
and assessment. A variety of resources about NGCP
mini-grants are available on the Web site. The first
round of mini-grants will
best serve projects that are planned for
implementation in late Spring and Summer of 2008.
Regions or states not listed will open mini-grants in

Tools for Collaboration Success: NGCP Mini-
Grants
December 12, 2007, 11:00-12:00 PST/ 2:00-3:00
EST Sometimes great ideas and new
collaborative
projects need a little help getting started. In this
interactive webcast you'll learn how to create
collaborations using NGCP mini-grant funding. Past
mini-grant recipients will share
inspiring stories and outline strategies for successful
partnership and program development. Mini-grant
application basics and requirements will be
presented. Since 2002, the NGCP has awarded over
100 mini-grants to organizations in California,
Kansas, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, Oregon,
Texas, Washington, and Wisconsin that support girl-
serving science, technology, engineering, and
mathematics (STEM) focused programs.

Girls Dominate the Siemens
Competition
In a first for the prestigious
Siemens Competition in Math, Science & Technology
for U.S. high school students, girls walked away with
top honors in both the individual and team
categories.
Engineering Education Service Center
Engineering Education Service Center (EESC) is an
organization that strives to provide
engineering education through publications, videos,
workshops and presentations. The mission of the
EESC is to provide, or
help you provide, information resources to promote,
guide, and stimulate interest in science, technology,
engineering and math (STEM) with a particular
emphasis on engineering. The EESC has 10 years
experience
writing books, manuals, and newsletters to support
programs that encourage, motivate and inspire our
youth to consider careers in engineering.

National Center for Women & Information
Technology (NCWIT) Gotta Have IT Resource Kit
Gotta Have IT is an all-in-one computing resource kit
designed with educators' needs in mind. A select set
of high-quality posters, computing and careers
information, digital media and more, the resource kit
builds awareness and inspires interest in computing.
Resources are for all students and are especially
inclusive of girls. Resources were compiled by
members of the NCWIT K-12 Alliance.

NGCP Program Directory- Register your Program
Today!
The online Program Directory lists organizations and
programs that focus on motivating girls to pursue
STEM careers. The purpose of the directory is to help
organizations and individuals network, share
resources and collaborate on STEM-related projects
for girls. When you sign up for the Program Directory
you will enter your program description, resources
available within your organization, program and/or
organizational needs and contact information.

Association of University
Women
(AAUW) members across the
country are serving as
Regional Liaisons for the National
Girls
Collaborative Project. These
Regional
Liaisons help the people involved
in the NGCP
to make connections - to one
another, to
resources on gender equity, and to
AAUW.
AWE
is the Assessing Women and Men
in
Engineering
Project, which provides exportable
assessment
instruments, literature resources,
and methodologies
for Women in Engineering and
similar programs. AWE is developing resources for
use by K-12 STEM programs as part of NGCP
services.
