Thank you for your interest in this free Science Action Club Training being held at Alaska Afterschool Network in Anchorage, AK and co-sponsored by Pacific Northwest Collaborative Project and the California Academy of Sciences.

Join us to discover how you can engage youth in learning through bugs, citizen science, and nature education! Bugs are a great hook for getting girls and boys outside to observe and connect to their environment, wherever you are, you can find Bugs in your area.

Participants are invited to attend this grant-funded professional development opportunity and discover how to engage youth grades 5-8 through inquiry-based STEM instruction. Activity Leaders and club sponsors are invited to experience hands-on activities (including a nature walk!) and take home a 12-lesson curriculum and kit of teaching materials to serve 15-20 youth in your program.

The Bugs in Your Schoolyard curriculum takes youth on an adventure to search for bugs, collect specimens, and post discoveries to iNaturalist, a citizen science project and online social network for scientists and nature enthusiasts. Through iNaturalist, youth connect with biodiversity scientists and other SAC youth nationwide to identify species and investigate environmental issues.

The Training will be facilitated by Thomas Azzarella from Alaska Afterschool Network.
