Join the Montana Girls STEM Collaborative and the Montana Environmental Education Association to discover how you can engage girls and boys in learning through birds, citizen science, and local habitat improvement projects that benefit birds and other wildlife!

What you'll receive:

During this free full-day professional development opportunity you’ll be introduced to a curriculum developed by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and will discover how to engage girls and boys ages 8-13 through inquiry-based STEM instruction. The first 20 organizations or educators* to register will receive a full-color, 7-lesson curriculum guide plus other resources to take home. Teaching materials are aligned to Next Generation Science Standards and the Common Core standards. The workshop is appropriate for both K-12 and informal educators; no experience with birds or citizen science is required.

Some outdoor activities are included; please come prepared to be outside on a Montana not-quite-springtime day!

The workshop will be co-facilitated by Suzi Taylor of the Montana Girls STEM Collaborative/ MSU Extended University and Amanda Obery of the Montana Environmental Education Association.

What's expected of participants: Participating educators will be expected to utilize the curriculum with a group of youth and complete evaluation data for the Cornell Lab of Ornithology prior to Aug. 31, 2016. Implementing the complete curriculum requires approximately 10 contact hours with youth. The Cornell Lab of Ornithology will also provide ongoing resources and support to participants. If you have questions about this expectation, please don't hesitate to contact us.

Visit the BirdSleuth Habitat Connection page (http://www.birdsleuth.org/habitat-connections-2/) to learn more about the materials.

Additional information and workshop documents will be uploaded or sent to you as the workshop date approaches. Lunch will not be provided at this training; participants can bring a lunch or have lunch in downtown Bozeman.

This workshop is held in conjunction with the annual Montana Environmental Education Association conference, and participants are encouraged to consider attending other MEEA conference events on Wednesday evening and Friday. (See http://www.montanaeea.org/professional/conference.html for registration information and agenda)
