The Connecticut Science Center (CSC) and the Connecticut Girls Collaborative Project invite you to attend the first annual Girls RISE (Raising Interest in Science and Engineering) workshop entitled ‘Where are they? Building Awareness about Gender Equity.’ As a regional Hub for The Girls RISE Museum Network, the Connecticut Science Center is committed to the work of enhancing the ability of informal science educators to engage minority girls in grades 6-12 in programming that will encourage them to pursue careers in science and engineering. The objective of The Girls RISE Museum Network is to build capacity of girls and minority girls in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) fields, increase cultural competency, and celebrate the "G" in Engineering.

CSC is pleased to collaborate on this workshop with the Connecticut Girls Collaborative Project (CGCP) whose goal is to increase gender equity in STEM fields by strengthening the capacity of existing and evolving projects through the sharing of promising practice research and program models.

At this full day workshop you will:

  • Examine the latest research concerning underrepresentation of girls and minorities in science and engineering.
  • Increase your awareness of issues affecting female and minority participation in STEM education and careers
  • Begin to develop strategies to better engage girls in STEM related activities
  • Network with other professionals in the field who are passionate about STEM knowledge and practice.
  • Interact with a panel of women in STEM careers who will share their experiences
