FabFems in Action!

About a year ago Dana Hoffmann posted her profile on www.fabfems.org and became part of a community of over 200 women in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) professions who are inspiring role models for young women.

FabFems are women from a broad range of professions in (STEM). They are passionate, collaborative, and work to make the world a better place. Many girls have similar interests but aren't connected to adults who exemplify the STEM career pathway. This is where our FabFems Role Models come in!

After creating her FabFems Profile, Dana got connected to other local FabFems in San Francisco, CA, and to the Girl Scouts of Northern California. According to Dana, the group “had some wonderful experiences mentoring young Girl Scouts interested in STEM professions,” and so they continued to work together.

These FabFems from different organizations and universities came together earlier this year and hosted a booth at the Girl Scouts’ “When I Grow Up” Career Exploration Day at the NASA Ames Research Center in Mountain View, CA on April 13th, 2013.

The event was a huge success with hundreds of girls coming through the booth and interacting with the FabFems. There were many young girls and volunteers interested in getting involved in the FabFems community.

A huge THANK YOU to Dana and her team! Thank you for all you are doing to inspire young girls in STEM.

As summer youth programs get underway around the country, we know there are many more FabFems in action in your communities. Send us your pictures and stories so we can share them with the FabFems community.
