Collaboration Sparks Awards

August 24, 2010

The Nashville section of the American Chemical Society (ACS) and the Middle Tennessee State University Expanding Your Horizons (MTSU EYH) Conference received the prestigious ChemLuminary Award for Diversity at a ceremony in Boston.

The American Chemical Society “remains committed to inspiring and educating the present and future generations of diverse, innovative, and creative chemical professionals.” The Nashville section was recognized for its commitment to advancing diversity and inclusion through their outreach activities with both the MTSU EYH Conference and their participation in the Girls Raised in Tennessee Science (GRITS) Collaborative Project!

The Nashville section of the ACS provides role models, supplies for EYH workshops, and financial aid for girls in need. The GRITS Collaborative Project also provides role models, and EYH and partners from the GRITS Collaborative Project provide the girls. This winning collaboration has produced workshops like "Glitter Girls" (cosmetics chemistry), "Let's Color The Wind" (pigments and paints), "Pharm Phun" (medicinal chemistry), and "Ooze, Goo and Slime" (polymer chemistry). Congratulations to all!
