REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS FOR NEW NGCP
REGIONAL COLLABORATIVES: The NGCP is
continuing to expand its reach across the United
States and Puerto Rico. We are now accepting
proposals from organizations that are interested in
hosting collaborative activities. The ideal lead
organization for a collaborative is one that is already
engaged in work relating to girls in STEM and can fit
the collaborative activities into existing job roles and
organizational events. The American Association of
University Women (AAUW) regions are used to
organize support for collaboratives. We are currently
looking for organizations to serve: Arizona, New
Mexico, Colorado, New York, Pennsylvania, Puerto
Rico and Virginia (including surrounding states).
Preference is given to organizations serving multiple
states. For more information about becoming a local
collaborative site, contact Karen Peterson,
kpeterson@psctlt.org. For more information about the
work AAUW is doing with NGCP:

California and Florida NGCP Mini-Grants Open
The National Girls Collaborative Project offers many
tools to help strengthen the capacity of programs
serving girls in science, technology, engineering and
mathematics (STEM). NGCP awards mini-grants to
girl-serving STEM focused programs. Mini-grant
projects must relate to either informal learning or
evaluation and assessment. Resources about NGCP
mini-grants are available on the Web site. Currently,
collaboratives in California and Florida
are offering mini-grants in their regions. To view the
deadlines:

Reaching Out to Underserved Populations in
STEM
February 13, 2008
11:00-12:00 PST
You've spent weeks planning and developing a
program to encourage girls or other underserved
populations in STEM. You carefully connected with
groups who may serve those populations. Still, when
the registration comes in, you notice very few
participants are from those targeted groups. In this
session, learn from experts in the field what research
and practice tell us about developing and marketing
STEM programs for underserved populations in
STEM.

AWE Joins with SWE
The AWE is
moving to the Society of Women Engineers. Why? It
provides a permanent home and a way to
continuously update AWE surveys and other tools. The
SWE-AWE tools will also be expanded to serve
organizational and corporate outreach needs, in
addition to the original emphasis on serving Women
in Engineering and similar programs. The revision of
the AWE pre-college instruments in collaboration with
NGCP is a good example, and important part, of this
change to create broader use of these important
assessment and evaluation tools. Access will remain
free-of-charge (with registration.) This
institutionalization of AWE in SWE is made possible
by a National Science Foundation grant
#0734072.
