Overview
From 2005-2008, the California Girls Collaborative Project (Cal Girls) has brought together organizations throughout California committed to informing and motivating girls to pursue educational choices and careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), based upon a model developed by the National Girls Collaborative Project (NGCP) and replicated by the NGCP through regional collaboratives across the U.S. The model is structured to bring organizations together to compare needs and resources, share information, and to expand STEM-related opportunities for girls. These organizations represent K-12 education, higher education, government, professional organizations, business, and community-based organizations.
Under the leadership of the Edward Teller Education Center and the University of California, Davis over 30 mini-grants have been awarded to support collaborations and encourage and expand the participation of K-12 girls in STEM. Three conferences have been held and multiple presentations have been made to California organizations.
The next phase of the California Girls Collaborative Project will seek to engage additional organizations from Southern California. Plans are underway to request proposals from potential lead organizations. If you are interested, please contact Karen Peterson, Principal Investigator, National Girls Collaborative Project.
